Plum sauce
Inspired by traditional Chinese cuisine, I made a recipe for sweet and sour plum sauce, which goes fantastically with meat or gluten-free pasta. Try out the recipe and let me know your impressions.
Preparation time: 25 minutes
Servings: 200-250 ml or 1 smaller jar
Ingredients:
1 onion, chopped into smaller pieces
2 ½ cup plums, chopped into small pieces
4-6 garlic cloves
3 thin ginger slices
3 tbsp olive oil
3 tbsp soy sauce
1-3 tbsp water + a little more, if needed
1-3 tsp agave syrup
½ tsp black pepper
¼ tsp Mediterranean herb mix
a pinch of red chili pepper flakes
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven at 220 °C.
2. Place the pieces of onion and plums, garlic cloves, and ginger slices in a pan, and coat with olive oil. Bake for 15 minutes, then lower the temperature to 200 °C, and continue baking for another 10-15 minutes, or until onion and garlic soften.
3. Put the onion, garlic, plums, and ginger in a blender, and blend until smooth. Add soy sauce, Mediterranean herb mix, and black pepper, then blend everything again. Add agave syrup, apple cider vinegar, and a pinch of red chili pepper flakes, then water (if needed) and blend again.
4. Pour the resulting sauce into a smaller pot and heat at moderate temperature.
5. Serve with desired protein and enjoy.
